Two-Year MBA Overview  Hone the Full Range of Your Managerial Skills
Babson is renowned for its success in cultivating entrepreneurship. But don't think we're just for those planning start-up ventures. At Babson, entrepreneurship isn't limited to start-ups—it's a state of mind. Our tradition of excellence is rich and encompasses the full scope of business activity. While some of our graduates launch start-up ventures, far more use their Babson training to succeed in the corporate environment.

The Two-Year MBA curriculum is specifically designed to hone the full range of your managerial skills:

The first year
First-year coursework and activities take you through each step of the business development cycle. The first-year curriculum, which emphasizes teamwork, employs varied approaches to address:

  • Entrepreneurial thinking—within established corporate environments as well as in start-ups
  • Innovation as a strategic tool
  • The importance of effective leadership in bringing about change
  • The value of teamwork
  • The importance of having a global advantage
  • Quality as a competitive advantage
  • Babson emphasizes integrative learning through its modular curriculum. A module is a carefully channeled combination of academic "streams" that together shape and define a larger topic. Each module is cross-disciplinary, and each builds on those that came before. The first-year MBA curriculum features four modules:

  • Creative Management in Dynamic Organizations
  • Assessing Business Opportunities
  • Designing and Managing the Delivery System
  • Growing and Renewing Businesses
  • These modules provide you with the perspective and cross-functional skills essential for success in a dynamic business environment.

    The second year
Your second-year builds on the first. In particular, elective courses let you focus on your specific career goals and interests.

    Occupational field/ Target audience

They say that finding a full-time job is a full-time job. But truth be told, just finding the right internship can be quite time-consuming and difficult. That’s why the MBA Center for Career Development has designed a set of core programs and services—to help you optimize your career plan. Whether you’re interested in pursuing opportunities in financial services, consumer products, technology, life sciences, consulting, professional services, or entrepreneurial ventures, we will partner with you to prepare you for the journey ahead.

To prepare you for that journey, our Relationship Management team will work with you in planning a strategy. That strategy will include the creation of an individualized action plan focusing on your involvement in:

  • alumni events
  • mentoring programs
  • career affinity groups
  • and corporate partnership programs
  • We’ll also work with you to develop your personal marketing communication plan and prepare you for networking activities and interviews. In short, our goal is to give you the skills and resources you’ll need to pursue the career path that you choose. And to do so, we combine career education and the practical application of skills that you’ll learn both in the classroom and in group settings.

The Babson community is a global network of partners willing to share their insights and offer their guidance to help you in planning your career. Whether your objectives include a leading international firm, a small- to mid-cap company, or a start-up venture, you’ll have a support network to help you explore the opportunities.

Through the MBA Center for Career Development, you can mobilize Babson’s powerful alumni network, our Executives-in-Residence, and faculty as resources for your career search. And even before you begin your career search, you can turn to these individuals and to the Center for Career Development for advice on making the most of your MBA experience and making educational choices that will give you the best possible springboard for the future.

    Focus / Curriculum

First Year Curriculum  At Babson, the first year of the Two-Year MBA features a modular approach. A module is a careful combination of academic "streams" that by flowing together, define and shape a larger topic. Each module is cross-disciplinary, and each successive module builds on the ones that came before. This format offers both flexibility and interactive learning. It also allows for team teaching in several of our combined stream classes.

The Two-Year MBA modules aren’t hammered into standard academic semesters or quarters. Rather, modules range in length from four to ten weeks. Similarly, day-to-day class schedules vary according to subjects and their sequencing. Although the specific modules change from year to year, they will provide a year-long emphasis on career management, managerial speaking, writing skills, and law and ethics.

Second Year Curriculum  Building on your first-year experience, the second year encourages you to focus your studies through a combination of required courses and electives. Many of our electives are organized around Career Contexts, which help students make choices consistent with their career individual goals. Electives can be completed through traditional coursework or by supplementing courses with any one or a combination of the unique programs Babson offers.

Another program initiative, the "intensive elective," enables you to complete selected courses, such as Knowledge Management, through highly-concentrated study over a three-day period.
