Program Information

MBA General Management - Dual Award

The Berlin School of Economics and Law has been running this MBA programme since 1992 in conjunction with our cooperation partner, the Anglia Ruskin University, based in Cambridge and Chelmsford. Building on our many years of experience, the MBA programme was designed to enable the students to obtain a Masters degree from both Anglia Ruskin and the Berlin School of Economics and Law.

Nonetheless, it would hardly be credible to award students, even those in full-time employment, a Master's degree from a British university without them having experienced the academic environment there - and so the programme not only includes courses by Anglia Ruskin lecturers in Berlin but also study visits to England.

The MBA General Management - Dual Award builds on the knowledge acquired during the students´ first degree - which need not have been specifically in Economics or related disciplines. The diversity of the MBA students' academic backgrounds are an enrichment to the discussions, helping to think outside of specific subject boxes and across national boundaries - a tendency further encouraged by the participants having, as a rule, at least two years practical business experience. This MBA programme aims to disseminate the specific knowledge and expertise needed for executive management tasks at the start of the new millennium and encourage the international perspectives now so crucial in the world of work. The future MBA graduates on this programme are committed to acquiring and expanding their business, language and social skills for executive management tasks in internationally active companies; and to ensure this commitment is properly documented, regular attendance and active participation is required for all courses.

Occupational field/ Target audience

This MBA programme has been specifically designed for people planning to study for a further qualification without having to take a career break.

In this way, this programme is ideal for all those looking for a further qualification to help them advance their present careers, or wanting to acquire new management skills to re-direct their careers, or seeking to expand their expertise in dealing with new executive management tasks.
The MBA General Management - Dual Award is designed as a two-year part-time course of studies.´

Focus / Curriculum

The material covered in the programme is divided into four related subject fields with a total of 11 modules. The four subject fields are as follows:

- Accounting and Financial Instruments
- Market Related Instruments and Management
- Behavioural Aspects of Management
- Strategic and International Perspectives of Management

As a supplement to the economics courses, a Management Skills Seminar must be taken in each of the three semesters.
These two-day seminars are designed to develop the latter along with everyday skills required in management. Additional courses in presentation techniques, conflict management, self-management and negotiating can also be offered, depending on demand.
