Master in East Asian ManagementThe "East Asian Management" MBA is a new, exciting initiative from one of the oldest Graduate Centers in Germany. Intercultural competences are getting more and more important in the international field of work and therefore the IGC established this MBA with a well balanced combination of management-, intercultural- and language-know-how.
The program aims to provide students with practice-oriented knowledge for the solution of management tasks in international enterprises and organizations. The curriculum consists of a mixture of business and cross-cultural classes, integrating communication skills as well as professional management know-how. The program is rounded up by language classes that impart the basic language knowledge of the chosen/relevant region.
The program is taught entirely in English, inviting both German and international students who want to further develop their international career with a focus on the Asian Market. Small classes allow individual tutoring and counseling of each student. The program is staffed with highly qualified people with an international background, including both experienced practitioners and committed academics.
Occupational field/ Target audience
The main field of occupation for successful graduates is at the interface between Europe and the Asian markets. Graduates will primarily work in jobs where their area of expertise and management competences with a focus on Asia are necessary. This could be the supervision of procurement, production, sales or customer service of German/European enterprises with business activities in Asia or within joint ventures in Asia itself. Tasks can also evolve in product development and quality management with and/or for Asian customers and suppliers
Focus / Curriculum
The EAM curriculum consists of two main components: 1. Core courses in international management, economics and quantitative methods, cross-cultural and human resource management, finance, operations and project management, law and taxation.
2. Mandatory elective courses in area studies and language training either with focus on China, India, Japan or Korea. Students have to choose one country focus upon their application to the program.
In each of the four semesters there is one module dedicated to the area studies and one to the language of the respective region (Chinese, Hindi, Japanese or Korean). The remaining two modules in the first semester are Introduction to International Management and People and Management. In the second semester, one module about Finance and Management and one dealing with the Business Environment are broadening the curriculum. The third semester includes two modules about International Business Law and Taxes and International Operations and Project Management. In the fourth semester a 60 hour Master Seminar is scheduled for an exchange of thoughts between tutor and students while writing the Master´s Thesis.
