First batch of WOU students complete MBA programme
THE first batch of Wawasan Open University’s (WOU) Commonwealth Executive Master of Business Administration (CeMBA) students has completed the programme and will be receiving their degrees in October. The batch of 36 graduates, who started the programme in January 2008, will receive their degree scrolls at WOU’s inaugural convocation on Oct 23, which will be presided by WOU chancellor Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu. WOU vice-chancellor and chief executive officer Prof Dr Wong Tat Meng told a press conference the graduates, aged between 26 and 60, comprised engineers, medical officers, managers and executives. "Out of 36 of these fast trackers, five were admitted under the Open Entry route whereby they did not hold bachelor degrees," he said. He said the results prove that adults with appropriate work experience are perfectly capable of successfully undertaking post-graduate studies even though they don’t have a first degree. Prof Wong said WOU began offering the CeMBA programme after signing an agreement with Commonwealth of Learning (COL) in 2008 and the course is offered through WOU’s School of Business and Administration and coordinated through its Centre for Graduate Studies (CGS). "We have 427 students actively enrolled in various courses under CGS including 90 new enrolment," he said. The CeMBA is a unique international programme that resulted from the collaboration between COL and a consortium of four founding universities in Pakistan, Bangladesh and India in 2002. |
